New Year's Sunrise 2024 at Ansan Bongsudae, Seodaemun-gu (鞍山)

Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced that a New Year's sunrise event to wish for hopes in the new year will be held near Ansan (鞍山) Bongsudae, a famous sunrise viewing spot, organized by the Seodaemun Cultural Center on January 1, 2024.

At 6:40 AM on that day, warm tea and hot packs will be prepared at the entrance of Ansan 'Mannam Square' behind the Seodaemun-gu Office for participating residents.

From here, participants will be guided to the sunrise viewing location by installed guide lights and stationed safety personnel along the way.

After climbing Ansan for about 20 to 30 minutes, passing through Yeonheung Mineral Spring and Muakjeong, participants will reach the helicopter pad. Here, there will be events such as 'Daebuk Tago,' where participants shout their New Year's wishes and beat a large drum, and 'Hwaryongjeomjeong,' an event to complete the dragon's eye. Additionally, attendees can exchange New Year's greetings and take commemorative photos at the photo zone with the Blue Dragon image as the background.

Next, from the helicopter pad, a 5-minute walk leads to Bongsudae, where participants can enjoy the sunrise at the expected time of 7:37 AM by chanting the 'Three Cheers of Hopeful Sunrise.'

Just before sunrise, a spectacle featuring a large balloon shaped like a rising Blue Dragon will be presented.

This event prioritizes safety with prior safety inspections of ramps and stairs, installation of safety fences and control lines, separation of upward and downward traffic flows due to crowd density, and operation of an on-site temporary medical clinic.

In addition, close cooperation will be maintained with Seodaemun Police Station, Seodaemun Fire Station, and Seodaemun-gu Health Center.

The weather forecast for Seoul on January 1 currently predicts a low temperature of -1°C with mostly cloudy skies (60-80% cloud cover). However, if a cold wave or heavy snowfall weather advisory is issued on the day, the event may be canceled.

Mayor Lee Seongheon said, “We expect the Seodaemun Ansan sunrise event to be a time for families and neighbors to exchange New Year's greetings, renew their resolutions, and energetically welcome 2024.”
