The Department of Dental Hygiene major club ‘WEHam’ at Silla University (President Heo Nam-sik) received the Encouragement Award at the ‘9th Sotonggori University Student Volunteer Contest’.
The ‘Sotonggori University Student Volunteer Contest,’ held in collaboration with the Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters, is a project funded by the Dandelion Seed Fund voluntarily established by employees of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters. It is held annually to select universities and university federations in the Busan area to develop and support region-customized volunteer programs through creative talent-sharing activities.

This year’s ‘Contest’ received applications in March, selected 30 teams, and was held from April to November. The students of the Department of Dental Hygiene major club ‘WEHam’ at Silla University who participated in this event won the Encouragement Award.
The students of the Department of Dental Hygiene major club ‘WEHam’ at Silla University planned and conducted a program called ‘Algosseum Useful Tooth Care (Alssulgeonchi),’ a tooth care assistant, and received excellent evaluations for their presentation of the results.
Kim Na-young, the club president and recipient of the Encouragement Award at the contest, said, “Thanks to the passionate guidance of our professor and the support of my fellow dental hygiene club members, we were able to achieve good results,” adding, “With this award as a stepping stone, WEHam will realize its club goals and become oral health professionals with a mission of love, service, and consideration.”
Professor Kang Hyun-kyung, the advisor of WEHam, said, “The dental hygienist’s oath includes a phrase about dedicating oneself with philanthropy and a spirit of service to promote human oral health,” and added, “Through the major club, we will nurture students to learn the mission of dental hygienists and become professionals who contribute to the realization of medical welfare.”
