Israel Military "Rocket Interception... Incident Under Investigation"
Reports emerged on the 1st (local time) that rocket alert sirens sounded in an Israeli area near the Gaza Strip border, just over an hour before the temporary ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian armed faction Hamas was set to end.
Major foreign media, citing Israeli public broadcaster Kan, reported that this was the first time rocket alert sirens had sounded since both sides entered the temporary ceasefire on the 24th of last month.
The Israeli military stated that rockets launched from the Gaza Strip were intercepted. The Israel Defense Forces announced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that they are investigating the incident.
There has been no comment from Hamas regarding this matter yet.
Foreign media also quoted Hamas-affiliated Shehab News Agency reporting that gunfire and several explosions were heard in the northern Gaza Strip on the morning of the same day.
Previously, Israel and Hamas entered a four-day temporary ceasefire starting on the 24th of last month. The ceasefire was mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, and was extended twice for three days each time. If the ceasefire is not extended again, it will end at 7 a.m. local time on the 1st (2 p.m. Korean time).
Earlier, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Israel and Hamas had agreed to extend the temporary ceasefire by one more day.
