"Adopt Party Resolution to Implement Mixed-Member Proportional Representation and Prevent Satellite Parties"
Former co-chair of the Democratic Party's Emergency Response Committee, Park Ji-hyun, raised her voice, stating that "the return to a parallel voting system, a vested interest system that created the duopoly structure, is an act that violates the Democratic Party's promises and mission."
On the 27th, Park posted on her Facebook, "The return to a parallel voting system is a political regression that seeks to settle for the vested interests of the two major parties," and warned, "If the Democratic Party colludes with the People Power Party to decide on a return to the parallel voting system, they will pay a heavy price for betraying the people and their solemn promises."
She said, "Our current politics and our National Assembly are grossly insufficient to represent the diverse public opinion of a pluralistic society," adding, "This is because the two major parties monopolize seats exceeding public sentiment."
Park appealed to protect the mixed-member proportional representation system at the Democratic Party's parliamentary meeting on the 29th. She emphasized, "The Democratic Party must uphold the mixed-member proportional representation system that it created and promised," and "We must do our best to prevent satellite parties of the two major parties that exploit this system. Not only must we protect the mixed-member proportional representation system, but we must also make every effort to preserve its intent."
Furthermore, she said, "Ahead of the last presidential election, then-candidate Lee Jae-myung repeatedly promised political reforms, including the mixed-member proportional representation system," and urged, "Do not lose the greater cause for minor gains. Please adopt the protection of the mixed-member proportional representation system and the prevention of satellite parties as the Democratic Party's official stance."
