Since its opening, the National Theater Company's online theater has released 19 productions and surpassed 10,000 viewers, with 10,406 people having watched as of October 25th.
The two specially invited productions being presented this time are "Gyeongodic Girl" by Theater Company Jageunbang and "Mermaid; The Woman Who Called the Sea" by Creative Group Kkol. The online theater sales revenue from these invited productions will be paid in full to the two theater companies, excluding fees.
"Gyeongodic Girl" centers on the family of a criminal case perpetrator. It was selected as the "New Work of the Year" in the Performing Arts Creation Studio by the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service last year.
The story is told from the perspective of 18-year-old twin sister "Sumin," whose sibling committed murder for unknown reasons and then took their own life. It is a provocative work that deals with themes outside social conventions, such as the additional suffering borne from the crime and the stories of those left behind after suicide. A barrier-free version with audio description added to the general version will also be released.

"Mermaid; The Woman Who Called the Sea" was produced aiming for a film adaptation of the play and targeting screen screenings. To lower the genre barrier of theater and approach the audience with familiar language, techniques such as one-take shooting and handheld camera work were utilized. While using theater stage sets and lighting, the actors perform in a film tone. It was selected as the "New Work of the Year" in the Performing Arts Creation Studio by the Arts Council Korea in 2016, and last year, supported by the "Performing Arts Creation Studio Video Production Project," it was screened in 10 CGV theaters nationwide.
On the 2nd anniversary day, an online theater discount event will also be held. Representative works of the National Theater Company such as "Scapin," "Jo's Orphan, Seeds of Revenge," "Hamlet," and "Faust Ending" will be available at discounted prices. The National Theater Company's online theater operates year-round, and viewers can watch the productions within 7 days after payment and for 3 days after the first playback.
