Collision with median strip at Hyehwa Station Exit 1
Both individuals have blood alcohol concentration over 0.08%
A vehicle carrying a drunken man and woman crashed into the central divider near Hyehwa Station in Hyehwa-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, but both are claiming, "I was not driving."
According to the Hyehwa Police Station in Seoul on the 30th, around 11:30 p.m. the previous day, a car carrying intoxicated individuals crashed into the central divider near Exit 1 of Hyehwa Station.
As a result of the accident, a woman in her 20s, Ms. A, who was in the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
When the police conducted breathalyzer tests on the occupants, both were found to have blood alcohol levels above the license cancellation threshold (0.08% or higher).
However, both individuals deny driving, claiming that they "did not drive."
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, including who was driving the vehicle.
According to the Road Traffic Act, the punishment for drunk driving crimes is determined by blood alcohol concentration. If the blood alcohol concentration is between 0.03% and 0.08%, the penalty is imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to 5 million won. If it is between 0.08% and 0.2%, the penalty is imprisonment for one to two years or a fine of up to 10 million won. If it reaches 0.2% or higher, the penalty is imprisonment for two to five years or a fine between 10 million and 20 million won.
