The Nakdong River Basin Management Committee announced on the 30th that it plans to support a total of 5.235 billion KRW for 10 projects in 8 cities and counties as special support projects for 2024 in the water source management areas and dam surrounding areas.

Resident support projects are divided into general support projects and special support projects. Special support projects are large-scale excellent projects discovered and supported through local government competitions, including eco-friendly projects with high pollutant purification effects, income-increasing projects for local residents, and projects to improve the living environment of local residents.

According to the "Act on Water Management and Resident Support in the Nakdong River Basin," the Nakdong River Basin Management Committee invited applications for special resident support projects for 2024 from 23 cities and counties, receiving 19 project applications (12 billion KRW) from 13 cities and counties.

The Special Support Project Selection Evaluation Committee held on the 24th reviewed the feasibility and necessity of the projects, the content of the project plans, expected effects, and post-management plans, selecting 10 projects with high effects such as water quality improvement and resident living environment improvement.

Seven new projects (2.7 billion KRW), including the Oxygen Bus Distribution Project for Carbon Neutrality in Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk, were newly selected, and three continuing projects (2.5 billion KRW), including the Jinyang Lake Waste Liquid and Aquatic Ecology Management Improvement Project in Jinju-si, Gyeongnam, were selected.

Among the selected projects, Sacheon-si’s Customized Lunch Provision Model Discovery Project for Watershed Residents was proposed by the Nakdong River Basin Management Committee to expand the provision of communal meals at the village level as a form of resident support project. It received applications from local governments and plans to test various forms of communal meals and evaluate the results to serve as reference material for future project promotion.

Since 2007, the special support projects have annually selected large-scale excellent projects with significant effects on increasing residents’ income, welfare enhancement, and environmental improvement, supporting 225 projects in 23 cities, counties, and districts with a total of 72.6 billion KRW until 2023.

Commissioner Choi Jong-won said, “We hope that the selected projects will provide tangible benefits to the residents of the respective areas and serve as an opportunity for further regional development.”
