Gala Poras-Kim has presented works that explore the relationship between artifacts and institutional frameworks such as museums and art galleries, based on her interest in memory, history, and cultural identity, including laws related to cultural heritage.

The Leeum Museum of Art, operated by the Samsung Foundation of Culture (Chairman Kim Hwang-sik), announced on the 30th that it will hold a solo exhibition of Gala Poras-Kim starting from the 31st. The exhibition will showcase three new works by the artist alongside 10 national treasures from the Leeum Museum's collection. The works include 'National Treasure 530,' depicting national treasures from both South and North Korea; '37 Korean Artifacts Exported Overseas During the Japanese Colonial Period,' which addresses artifacts taken abroad; and 'Staged Shadow of a Celadon Dongchae Bowl with Lotus Pattern,' focusing on the staging methods of artifacts.

The exhibition presents to the audience the multilayered relationship between artifacts and institutions through the artist’s project, highlighting how states and museums evaluate and manage artifacts, as well as the contexts imposed on Korean cultural heritage by the histories of colonization and division.

Additionally, as part of the exhibition’s related programs, an artist talk featuring the artist and the exhibition curator will be held on the 31st at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of the Leeum Museum of Art.

Lee Jin-ah, curator at the Leeum Museum of Art, explained, "This exhibition offers an opportunity to think comprehensively and critically about cultural heritage, museums, and exhibitions. The relationship between the state and museums with cultural heritage involves continuous choices about what is designated as an artifact, how it is managed, and what is exhibited and staged. Sometimes, these choices reveal more about the subject making them than about the artifacts themselves."

The exhibition will be held on the second floor of M1, where the Leeum Museum’s permanent collection of ancient art is displayed. Admission is free of charge.
