President Yoon Suk-yeol stated, "I feel a grave responsibility to contribute to the world's freedom, peace, and prosperity through the strong alliance of the three countries: Korea, the United States, and Japan."
On the 29th (local time), President Yoon made these remarks after jointly receiving the '2023 Courageous People Award' from the John F. Kennedy Foundation in the United States, along with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, according to the Presidential Office spokesperson.
The award ceremony, held at the JFK Foundation Library and Museum in Boston, USA, was attended by Ambassador Cho Hyun-dong as a proxy, and President Yoon delivered his acceptance speech via video.
President Yoon said, "Since high school, I have admired President Kennedy while studying English through his inaugural address and his speech in West Berlin," adding, "The values and worldview he pursued brought about social change and scientific progress through his courage and determination. That is exactly what the New Frontier represents."
He continued, "President Kennedy's insight that there can be no reform and innovation without courage has been a great lesson to me," and added, "It is a personal honor to receive the 'Courageous People Award,' which symbolizes his New Frontier spirit."
President Yoon also reflected, "However, I question whether I have achieved the changes and innovations worthy of this award," stating, "Courage arises from a thorough attitude of sacrifice and dedication. I am determined to work harder. I am pleased to receive this award today together with Prime Minister Kishida of Japan."
Furthermore, President Yoon expressed, "I feel a grave responsibility to contribute to the world's freedom, peace, and prosperity through the strong alliance of Korea, the United States, and Japan. From now on, even more devoted courage is needed," and requested, "I ask for your unwavering support."
