The Voluntary Energy Efficiency Target Program is a national-level system aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy efficiency. Every year, companies enter into agreements to improve energy efficiency and are evaluated on their improvement performance, with excellent business site certifications awarded accordingly.
Dongseo Foods' Bupyeong factory led efforts to raise awareness of energy savings through optimizing manufacturing processes and reducing electricity consumption. As a result, it was selected as one of the 10 excellent business sites among 91 participating sites in the 2022 Voluntary Energy Efficiency Target Program.
The Bupyeong factory, a leading coffee manufacturing plant in Korea, introduced equipment that recovers and reuses high-temperature exhaust gases and steam generated during the coffee manufacturing process, thereby enhancing energy efficiency. Last year, it achieved an energy savings rate of 5.4%, exceeding the target. According to the company, the energy savings measured by instruments amount to approximately 680 toe (tons of oil equivalent) annually, which translates to about 700 million KRW in monetary value.
Kim Jeong-gi, the factory manager of Dongseo Foods' Bupyeong factory, stated, "We will continue energy efficiency improvement activities to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions."
