Anseong City "All-Out Effort to Establish Semiconductor Materials, Parts, and Equipment Specialized Complex"

Establishment of Semiconductor Attraction Team and Participation in Technology Expo
Customized Support Projects for Workforce Development to Begin in Full Scale Next Year

Anseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 26th that it will concentrate its administrative efforts to facilitate the smooth establishment of the 'Semiconductor Materials, Parts, and Equipment (SoBuJang) Specialized Complex.'

Earlier, the government designated the Dongshin General Industrial Complex, planned to be developed over an area of 1.57 million square meters in Dongshin-ri, Bogae-myeon, as a specialized complex for semiconductor SoBuJang in July.

Since the designation, the city has revised and supplemented the SoBuJang specialized complex development plan through collaboration among related departments such as the Strategic Planning Officer, Urban Development Division, and Job Economy Division, and submitted it to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The city is also promoting an organizational restructuring to establish a semiconductor attraction team. Recently, the city explained that it has been making various efforts, including visiting nearby semiconductor cities for working-level consultations and benchmarking.

In particular, the city participated in the '2023 SoBuJang Root Technology Exhibition' held recently at KINTEX in Ilsan, Goyang, and operated a specialized complex pavilion.

The city is promoting a service project to reorganize the semiconductor SoBuJang industry and establish a roadmap to formulate the 2024 Semiconductor Industry Promotion Plan. It plans to continuously hold working-level meetings to discuss semiconductor talent development measures in cooperation with local universities such as Hankyong National University and Korea Polytechnic University.

Starting next year, based on national government funding from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and local government funds following the designation of the specialized complex, the city will actively promote customized support projects such as technology development, testbed (pilot project) establishment, and workforce training.

Specifically, the city plans to pursue ▲ technology development for next-generation semiconductor processes centered on local semiconductor anchor companies ▲ promotion of semiconductor SoBuJang testbeds and semiconductor workforce training centers ▲ support for research and development (R&D) cooperation models ▲ and linking workforce training to employment at SoBuJang companies.

A city official stated, "We will do our best to explore development plans with semiconductor companies and stakeholders in each field, refine detailed strategies, and concretize national support projects so that Anseong can leap forward as the center of K-semiconductors."

Meanwhile, a total project cost of 674.7 billion KRW will be invested in the Dongshin General Industrial Complex. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027 and be completed by 2030. The city expects that the establishment of the SoBuJang specialized complex will generate employment effects for about 16,000 people, added value of 990 billion KRW, and production inducement effects of 2.44 trillion KRW.
