Cho Sun-ho, Head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, attended the fire truck donation ceremony held on the 26th at the Osan Gyeonggi-do National Safety Experience Center and is taking a commemorative photo with key officials.
The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters has provided a total of 234 used fire trucks free of charge to Southeast Asia and other regions over the past 17 years since 2006.
On the 26th, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced that it held a ceremony at the Osan Gyeonggi-do National Safety Experience Center to commemorate surpassing 200 free fire truck donations, attended by ambassadors from five countries?Cambodia, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Peru, and the Philippines?that received fire trucks this year.
Gyeonggi-do’s fire truck donation project supports countries in need by providing fire trucks that have exceeded their service life, thereby practicing humanitarian spirit and assisting in the modernization of disaster management systems.
Starting in 2006 with the provision of 20 fire trucks to improve the poor fire safety conditions in the Korean community of Primorsky Krai, Russia, Gyeonggi-do has supported a total of 190 various fire trucks, including pump trucks, water tankers, and ambulances, to nine countries such as Cambodia and Mongolia up to last year. This year, an additional 44 trucks were donated, increasing the number of supported countries to 10 and the total to 234.
In March, the Siem Reap Province of Cambodia expressed gratitude to Gyeonggi-do for successfully extinguishing a fire and preventing casualties using Gyeonggi-do fire trucks.
Gyeonggi-do’s fire truck donation project not only contributes to global safety but also helps open overseas markets for the domestic fire industry.
Among the 155 companies affiliated with the Korea Fire Industry Association that manufacture various firefighting equipment and supplies, more than half?78 companies?operate in Gyeonggi-do.
Thanks to the fire truck donation project, a fire truck manufacturer in the province is exporting fire trucks to Vietnam.
Cho Seon-ho, head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "We will continue to donate fire trucks to countries vulnerable to disasters and actively support the modernization of fire systems by promoting mutual exchange training. Gyeonggi-do will play a pivotal role in the development of the domestic fire industry."
The Fire and Disaster Headquarters will sign a memorandum of understanding in November to conduct a preliminary evaluation, including a system diagnosis, in response to Cambodia’s request to promote fire system modernization projects modeled after Gyeonggi-do’s fire services.
