The event will run from 12 PM to 5 PM, starting with the opening ceremony at 1:10 PM featuring a haegeum performance by the Gileum-dong residents’ club in front of the Kookmin University Gileum Dormitory on Samyang-ro.
The ‘2023 Dugeun Dugeun Byeolgil Market’ is expected to be a vibrant festival where young entrepreneurs, artists, and residents come together.
▲ Local stores’ ‘Ilsang Gonggam’ ▲ Zero-waste ‘Ilsang Market’ with resident communities ▲ Youth startup market ▲ Artists’ art market ‘Ililjang’ will be held. A variety of performances including jazz bands, dance, and magic by local artists and groups will provide enjoyment and relaxation. Additionally, children’s programs such as ‘Street Mural Painting I Wish For’ and ‘Children’s Detective Team’ will be operated to allow participants to experience the positive changes on Samyang-ro.
The ‘Dugeun Dugeun Byeolgil Market’ first started in 2019 as part of the project to eradicate harmful businesses on Samyang-ro and create the Gileum Youth Startup Street. It has now become a representative local festival in Seongbuk-gu where various local stakeholders including residents, young entrepreneurs, cultural artists, and community activists come together.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “Through the 2023 Dugeun Dugeun Byeolgil Market, I hope to give hope to dreaming youth and make Samyang-ro a beautiful street where residents want to walk with their families. Since this event is made possible by the active participation of residents, we will do our best to provide administrative support so that everyone can enjoy a pleasant and safe autumn day.”
Seongbuk-gu has been working hard on improving the street environment of Samyang-ro by eradicating harmful businesses and revitalizing youth startups. Seven youth startup stores have opened in places where harmful businesses disappeared. The district is continuously fostering the youth startup ecosystem by creating the youth startup hub ‘Gilieum’ and promoting the construction of the ‘Seongbuk Youth Smart Startup Center (tentative name).’ Based on these efforts, Samyang-ro is gradually transforming from a street people avoided to a street with youth startups and culture, a place everyone can enjoy.
