Seongbuk-gu Hosts the 5th Uireung Cultural Festival

Eoga Procession Parade, Musical Gyeongjong, Spectacular Celebrations by Art Groups and Korea National University of Arts... Rich Attractions Combined with Joseon Royal Tombs World Heritage Site Ireung Festival, Creating a Space for Resident Communication and Harmony

Seongbuk-gu Hosts the 5th Uireung Cultural Festival

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) will hold the "5th Seokgwan-dong Uireung Cultural Festival" on the 21st at Uireung in Seokgwan-dong and Seokgwan Elementary School.


Organized by the Seokgwan-dong Uireung Cultural Festival Promotion Committee, this event has prepared a variety of programs that people of all ages can enjoy.


The event will begin with the royal procession of King Yeongjo departing from Uireung and heading towards Seokgwan Elementary School. Linked with the car-free street event, about 170 local residents and students will voluntarily participate in a 1.3 km parade, providing a visual spectacle.


At the destination of the royal procession, the Seokgwan Elementary School playground, a reenactment of the gyeokjaeng (traditional drum battle) will take place, followed by the musical "Gyeongjong Sujeong Sillok." Then, high-quality performances by local art groups and the Korea National University of Arts will be presented, along with congratulatory performances by Seokgwan Elementary and Seokgwan Middle school clubs and community center programs.


Additionally, eight teams who passed the preliminary round of the residents' singing contest will compete, and invited singers such as Geum Jandi and the idol boy group Dustin will perform, creating an even more spectacular stage.


Other activities include hands-on booths run by residents offering wood tile pot coaster making, hairpin making, face tattoos, toy recycling, and knitting supplies experience, along with a sharing bazaar. Various welfare consultations and early dementia screenings will also be available at designated booths. Food trucks will operate to provide abundant entertainment and food.


Kim Deok-hyun, chairman of the Seokgwan-dong Uireung Cultural Festival Promotion Committee, said, "The Seokgwan-dong Uireung Cultural Festival is one of the representative village festivals of Seongbuk-gu," adding, "We hope everyone participating in this festival will create wonderful memories."


Jung Chang-seop, head of Seokgwan-dong, stated, "We hope this festival will serve as an opportunity to connect the Joseon Royal Tombs, a World Cultural Heritage site, with the local community, and also become a place for communication and harmony."


Lee Seung-ro, mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, "Uireung, designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, is a local heritage with outstanding scenery and high preservation value," and added, "We will continue administrative support for this local festival that enhances our residents' pride and share the same purpose."
