Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that the "29th Seoul Yakryeongsi Boje-won Korean Medicine Culture Festival," held over two days on the 13th and 14th around Yakryeong Jungang-ro, concluded successfully.
At 10 a.m. on the 13th, the event began with the "Boje-won Memorial Parade and Memorial Ceremony" held around Seoul Yakryeongsi and the Seoul Korean Medicine Promotion Center. The "Boje-won Memorial Ceremony" is an annual event held in Seoul Yakryeongsi to honor Boje-won's spirit of relief and highlight the value of Korean medicine. This year, Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, served as the chief ritualist who offered the first cup of wine during the ceremony. Following the memorial ceremony, there were events such as sharing Korean medicine wild vegetable bibimbap, the opening ceremony and lighting ceremony, and cultural performances by invited singers.
Notably, at 3 p.m. that day, an academic seminar titled "Uibang Yuchwi and Yangsaeng" was held to discuss the Korean medical value of "Uibang Yuchwi," an encyclopedic medical text compiled by King Sejong who cared deeply about the health of his people, as well as King Sejong's philosophy of benevolence. Eight domestic and international scholars researching Uibang Yuchwi gathered to discuss ▲the Korean medical value of "Uibang Yuchwi," ▲"Uibang Yuchwi" and the Yangsaeng (health preservation) philosophy of the Yuanming era, ▲"Uibang Yuchwi" and dietary therapy, and ▲research on medical welfare ideas during King Sejong's era. The seminar provided an opportunity to study the health and medical value of this classical Korean medicine text and explore modern development plans.
On the second day, the 14th, participatory events for residents visiting the festival continued, including a Korean medicine auction, Yakryeongsi singing contest, and a Korean medicine herb quick slicing competition. Additionally, various events and programs were held to experience Yakryeongsi and Korean medicine culture, such as free Korean medicine consultations, one-day classes (Korean medicine cosmetics and perfumes), and cultural tours of Yakryeongsi.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "The Boje-won Korean Medicine Culture Festival has continued for 29 years to widely promote Seoul Yakryeongsi, which is one of our district's strengths." He added, "Dongdaemun-gu will seek various measures to revitalize the Korean medicine industry, which has recently been in decline, by establishing a collaborative network for mutual cooperation with Korean medicine-related regions such as Jecheon City and Sancheong County, and jointly requesting financial support from related government agencies like the Ministry of SMEs and Startups to promote the Korean medicine industry."
