Hyundai Wia showcased autonomous parking robots and logistics robots at RoboWorld 2023, held for four days from the 11th at KINTEX in Goyang. As the largest robot industry exhibition in Korea, Hyundai Wia set up the biggest exhibition space among participating companies. This is the first time the company has participated in a robot exhibition.
The unmanned parking robot, introduced for the first time in Korea, is a thin and wide robot capable of lifting cars that autonomously enters under the vehicle to park it. The robot’s LiDAR sensor accurately recognizes the size and distance of the vehicle’s wheels to move the car. It enables entry and movement from all directions?front, back, left, and right?making parking space usage more efficient. The exhibition’s organizing committee awarded the robot for its technology and marketability.
An autonomous mobile robot (AMR) utilizing self-driving functions was also showcased. The AMR autonomously navigates inside the factory to transport items. Using LiDAR sensors and others, the robot creates a real-time map of the factory on its own and moves around. When creating the map, the AMR separately classifies hazardous areas to generate the optimal route. It avoids obstacles autonomously.
Hyundai Wia installed a ‘Smart Manufacturing Logistics Solution Zone’ at the exhibition site, demonstrating AMRs and collaborative robots working autonomously in an actual manufacturing environment. Various sizes of AMRs and collaborative robots autonomously retrieve parts from the warehouse, process and inspect them, and then return them to the warehouse. A real-time integrated control system enables different AMRs to work along optimal routes.
A company representative explained, "The control system understands the factory’s situation and environment and controls the logistics robots’ work scheduling to improve work efficiency," adding, "It was designed to flexibly respond to situations where various types of logistics robots are used simultaneously or when the factory and quantities change."
