22 Recipients of Government Awards for Tourism Promotion Merit by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism
Shin Dalsun, CEO of HJ Magnolia Yongpyong Hotel & Resort, Lee Sangyeon, Executive Director of Paradise Casino Walkerhill, and Pyeon Heungjin, Chairman of the Gyeonggi-do Tourism Association, will receive industrial medals.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Association held a 'Tourism Day' ceremony on the morning of the 4th at Lotte Hotel Seoul and awarded government honors to twenty-two individuals who contributed to tourism promotion. This is an honor given to those who have contributed to the development of the Korean tourism industry. The awards have been given annually since 1974. This year, there is one recipient of the Silver Tower Industrial Medal, one recipient of the Bronze Tower Industrial Medal, one recipient of the Iron Tower Industrial Medal, two recipients of the Industrial Service Medal, six recipients of the Presidential Citation, and eleven recipients of the Prime Minister's Citation.
Shin, who will receive the Silver Tower Industrial Medal, has worked in the hotel industry since 2003 and has led wellness tourism and ESG management. He actively attracted foreign tourists through the development of various tourism products. Lee, who will be awarded the Bronze Tower Industrial Medal, is a marketing expert who has worked in the casino industry for 24 years. He attracted foreign tourists with advanced strategic marketing amid difficult external environments such as MERS and COVID-19. Pyeon, who will receive the Iron Tower Industrial Medal, is recognized as a key figure who pioneered the era of 2 million foreign tourists visiting Gyeonggi-do. He has been active in the tourism industry for 45 years and led regional tourism revitalization through public-private cooperation.
The Industrial Service Medal will be awarded to Oh Seongmun, CEO of Next Generation Express Tourism, and the late Boo Dongsuk, Chairman of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Tourism Association. Korea Travels’ Kim Mijeong, General Manager of Hotel Lotte L7 Hongdae, Park Yungu, CEO of Gomduri Travel, Kim Jongseok, CEO of Monolith, Oh Jaebeom, Executive Director of Ilsung Leisure Industry Seorak Branch, and Lee Sangyeol, Secretary General of Goyang Convention Bureau, will receive the Presidential Citation.
Jang Miran, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "I thank the tourism professionals who have devoted themselves to the development of Korea’s tourism industry and the honorable awardees," adding, "We will provide wholehearted support to open the era of 30 million foreign tourists."
