On November 23... Divorce Appeal Trial Procedures Also Begin on the 9th of the Same Month
No So-young, director of Art Center Nabi (62), will hold a lawsuit demanding 3 billion KRW in damages against Kim, the cohabitant of Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group (63), in November. The appeal trial for the divorce lawsuit between Director No and Chairman Chey will also hold its first preparatory hearing on November 9.
According to the legal community on the 27th, the Family Division 4 of the Seoul Family Court (Chief Judge Lee Kwang-woo) designated the first preparatory hearing for the damages claim lawsuit filed by Director No against Kim for November 23.
Director No filed the lawsuit on March 27, claiming that Kim committed adultery, gave birth to an illegitimate child, and acted like a spouse, causing her damage.
At that time, Director No’s side explained the reason for setting the lawsuit amount at 3 billion KRW, stating, "When the adulterer repeatedly commits adultery or it is ongoing, or when the adulterer urges the victim spouse to divorce, a high amount of consolation money is calculated."
Meanwhile, the first preparatory hearing for the appeal trial of the divorce lawsuit between the two was set for November 9. This is 11 months after the first trial result was announced on December last year.
The two were married in 1998. However, Chairman Chey revealed the existence of an illegitimate child in 2015 and expressed his intention to divorce. In July 2017, he applied for divorce mediation at the court, but the agreement failed due to Director No’s opposition. The formal lawsuit began in February the following year, but the lawsuit proceeded again as Director No filed a counterclaim.
Director No claimed 300 million KRW in consolation money and requested half (6,487,736 shares) of the 12,975,472 shares of SK Inc. held by Chairman Chey.
However, in the first trial in December last year, the court ruled that Chairman Chey must pay Director No 66.5 billion KRW as property division and 100 million KRW as consolation money. Both Director No’s side and Chairman Chey’s side appealed the first trial ruling.
