Alba Portal Survey: 1 in 2 People Work Part-Time
Popular Part-Time Jobs Are 'Store Management and Sales'
More than half of adult men and women are planning to work part-time during the upcoming Chuseok holiday. They were found to work part-time during Chuseok either because they have no special plans or to earn pocket money.
On the 21st, 'Albacheonguk,' a job and part-time job portal, announced the results of a survey on 'Chuseok part-time job plans' conducted on 2,586 adult men and women. The survey was conducted from the 5th to the 7th on the Albacheonguk website and application.
According to the survey, one out of two respondents (55.7%) said they plan to work part-time during the Chuseok holiday. The most common reason given for working part-time was 'to earn pocket money in a short period' (38.3%, multiple answers allowed). This was followed by 'having no special plans during the holiday' (23.9%) and 'because they usually work part-time' (20.4%).
The preferred part-time job sectors during the Chuseok holiday were led by 'store management and sales' (51.2%, multiple answers allowed). This was followed by packaging and sorting (40.6%), department stores and marts (25.8%), distribution and production (16.5%), and courier and delivery (10.1%).
It was also confirmed that preferences for job sectors differ by age group and gender. Among those in their 20s, 67.5% preferred 'store management and sales,' which was overwhelming, whereas from the 30s and above, preference for 'packaging and sorting' was higher. Additionally, women ranked 'store management and sales' (56.5%) first, while men chose 'packaging and sorting' (41.2%) as their top preference.
When asked where they would spend the part-time earnings earned during the Chuseok holiday, the largest number answered 'living expenses such as food and transportation' (60.8%, multiple answers allowed). This was followed by savings such as emergency funds and installment savings (34.7%), cultural and leisure expenses (24.9%), housing costs (18.0%), and education expenses (12.5%).

Despite the long holiday of up to 12 days, only 44.9% of adult men and women said they plan to visit their hometown during the Chuseok holiday, which is less than half.
Excluding those who already live in their hometown, the biggest reason for not visiting was 'having other plans such as part-time jobs or travel' (24.4%, multiple answers allowed). This was followed by 'difficulty resting during the holiday due to work or part-time jobs' (19.9%) and 'to avoid nagging and stress during the holiday' (13.3%).
Among those who said they would visit their hometown, the majority (82.1%) planned to stay for 'within 3 days.'
Other plans for the Chuseok holiday besides part-time jobs and hometown visits included 'resting at home' (54.3%, multiple answers allowed), which was the most common. This was followed by subscribing to content such as TV and OTT (27.8%), meeting friends and acquaintances (27.2%), and cultural activities such as watching movies, exhibitions, and performances (17.9%).
