Jung-gu District Office in Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gil-seong) is inspecting construction site safety and distributing holiday living information and safety guidelines to apartment complexes in preparation for the long Chuseok holiday.
To prevent major accidents that may occur during the holiday period and to raise awareness of safety management, which tends to become lax, a joint public-private inspection team has been deployed to check construction site safety. By the 21st, the district will focus on inspecting 10 large private redevelopment construction sites, including 3 demolition sites, 3 excavation sites, and 3 tower crane sites. For medium and large-scale building construction sites, 74 locations will be inspected from the 18th to the 22nd.
Through the inspections, Jung-gu will focus on ▲cleaning the environment around construction sites and whether pedestrian passage is obstructed ▶proper installation of earth retaining walls at excavation sites ▲management of safety accident prevention such as fire and flooding ▲adequacy of reinforcement and maintenance of tower cranes, construction equipment, temporary fences, and falling object prevention nets in preparation for typhoons and strong winds ▲status of self-organized emergency duty teams during the holiday period.
Minor issues found during inspections will be immediately corrected on-site, and if serious defects or risk factors are discovered, urgent reinforcement and repair work will be carried out to ensure thorough safety measures.
The district will also check for delayed payments of subcontractor fees, materials and equipment payments, and construction workers' wages. If sites with potential wage arrears are found, strong encouragement will be given to ensure payments are made before Chuseok.
Additionally, before Chuseok, Jung-gu will produce and distribute a ‘Chuseok Holiday Living Information Notice’ to approximately 25,600 apartment households within the district. The notice includes essential ‘tips’ such as information on emergency medical institutions, pharmacies, and screening clinics open during the holiday, direct transaction markets, Jung-gu Love Gift Certificates, cultural facilities with free admission during the holiday, parking information, garbage separation and disposal days, and emergency contact agencies in case of disasters.
Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, "Even small defects at construction sites during the long Chuseok holiday can lead to accidents. We will do our best to ensure a comfortable Chuseok holiday by preventing safety accidents in advance through thorough pre-inspections and continuous management."
