"Impossible to Ask North Korea Directly"
Estimated by Comparing with Russian Ambassador's Head Size
The Russian ambassador to North Korea revealed an anecdote about the difficulty he had in determining the hat size of Kim Jong-un, the Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea.
According to the Far East media PrimaMedia on the 18th (local time), the Russian Embassy in North Korea was instructed to confirm Kim's hat size in order to present him with a traditional Russian winter hat ahead of his visit to Russia. Previously, Kim visited Russia from the 12th to the 17th to attend a summit and other schedules.
Alexander Matsegora, the Russian ambassador to North Korea, expressed his frustration in an interview with Russia's state-owned Channel 1, saying, "It is impossible to ask North Koreans 'what is the head size of the national leader?'" and "It is unimaginable."
Because of this, the embassy ultimately chose to estimate Kim's head circumference by using a photo of Ambassador Matsegora and Kim standing side by side.

Ambassador Matsegora added, "I have a big head," and "an official who saw the photo of Kim and me together said, 'Kim's head seems a bit smaller.'
Through this process, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu gifted Kim a traditional Russian winter hat with ear flaps. According to Ambassador Matsegora, Kim was very pleased with the traditional hat he received as a gift.
In addition, Kim received many gifts from Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin also presented Kim with a top-quality Russian rifle and space suit gloves.
