‘Bada Daepyo’ University and Museum Present Marine Humanities Lecture!

Busan's representative maritime institutions, the National Pukyong National University and the National Maritime Museum, are hosting a public humanities lecture series on the sea for citizens titled "Everyone's Sea, Shared Values."


This lecture series will be held every Wednesday at 2 PM from October 4 to November 29 at the National Maritime Museum Conference Hall.


Representing academic fields related to the sea, the university and the specialized maritime museum have joined forces to utilize the characteristics of each institution and Busan to enhance citizens' cultural knowledge and understanding of marine ecology and the environment through this lecture series.


Experts from various fields will serve as lecturers, offering a total of nine lectures. The series provides an opportunity to gain a deep understanding of marine ecology and the environment from perspectives such as history, environment, and art.

The lecture topics include ▲Cheon(天) Hae(海) In(人): The History of East Asian Marine Environment as Told by Herring ▲Climate Crisis and the Sea ▲Patagonia's Efforts in Marine Environmental Conservation ▲New Functions of Marine Debris, among others.


Additionally, topics cover ▲Let's Do Beachcombing Together ▲Water Remembers: Truths about Microplastics and Artistic Practices ▲Tears of Antarctica and the Current State of the Earth ▲Essential Changes Needed to Combat the Climate Crisis ▲Contemporary Changes in the Marine Environment.


Anyone from university students, office workers, to homemakers can participate, and pre-registration is available on the National Maritime Museum website. The capacity is 50 people per session (30 for beachcombing).


Pukyong National University stated that this lecture series is jointly planned by the university’s Humanities Korea Plus Project Group Regional Humanities Center’s "Pukyong Maritime Humanities University" and the National Maritime Museum’s "Maritime Culture Academy," expecting to create synergy effects in expanding the public nature and social dissemination of maritime humanities.
