The ‘Blue Road Trekking Festival,’ co-hosted by Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, will take place on October 21 along the Yeongdeok Blue Road.
This event is part of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s ‘2023 Rechallenge Project,’ a program supporting middle-aged and young people preparing for a second life chapter in their local communities.
Yeongdeok-gun was selected for the ‘Rechallenge Project’ for the first time this year and has conducted various programs for middle-aged participants, including ‘Living as a Trekker for 2 Weeks,’ ‘3 Nights 4 Days Blue Road Expedition,’ and ‘Family Day,’ alongside the ‘Blue Road Trekking Festival.’
In addition to walking the Yeongdeok Blue Road, the first inland coastal trail in Korea, the festival offers various events such as local performances, a mini flea market, and commemorative kit giveaways.
The course is a 16 km circular route starting from Goraebul Beach in Byeonggok-myeon, passing through the traditional village of Gyesi-ri in Yeonghae-myeon, and returning to Goraebul Beach. Along the way, participants will visit several tourist attractions in Yeongdeok, including Daejin Beach, Gwaneo-dae, and Dohaedan.
Registration is open for the first 600 participants until the 13th of next month. The participation fee is 20,000 KRW, which includes a commemorative kit consisting of a long-sleeve T-shirt, Blue Road passport, badge, and bib number.
The festival organizing office plans to provide participants with sufficient water and refreshments but recommends bringing personal tumblers and snacks according to individual preferences.
