Incheon City Selects Redevelopment Project Candidate Sites... Calls for Preliminary Review Proposals by the 13th of Next Month

Incheon City is holding a public contest for the '2023 2nd Redevelopment Project Preliminary Review Proposal' until the 13th of next month to select additional redevelopment project candidate sites. This is a follow-up measure in accordance with the recently announced 'Plan to Promote Revitalization of Maintenance Projects' such as redevelopment and reconstruction aimed at balanced development of the old downtown area and expanding housing supply within the city center.

The contest targets areas that meet the requirements for designation as redevelopment maintenance zones according to relevant regulations and where more than 10% of landowners consent to a preliminary review for designation as redevelopment zones.

When preliminary review proposals are submitted to the relevant local government, the district or county reviews them and recommends candidate sites. The city then conducts a comprehensive review of the proposals to select the final candidate sites. Considering the urgency of residential environment maintenance, project feasibility, and impact on the surrounding environment, the city plans to select redevelopment project candidate sites in December.

In particular, the 2nd contest applies improved contest criteria reflecting residents' opinions and addresses issues raised during the 1st contest held last October.

While 45 sites applied in the 1st contest, only 10 were selected, causing dissatisfaction among residents. Therefore, the number of candidate zones to be selected in this 2nd contest has not been predetermined. If the initiator (district mayor) recommends zones scoring 70 points or higher in the 1st evaluation to Incheon City, the city will submit the proposals to the proposal review committee for comprehensive examination and deliberation on project feasibility to decide on selection.

An Incheon City official stated, "Since the number of selected zones is not fixed this time, we expect more zones to be selected than in the 1st contest," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that maintenance projects proceed swiftly to strengthen the competitiveness and vitality of the old downtown area."
