On the 31st (local time), Russia announced that it maintains good relations with North Korea and is in contact at various levels.
Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson, made the statement in response to a question regarding the U.S. White House announcement that Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un exchanged letters. He said, "Russia and North Korea maintain good relations, a mutually respectful relationship, and we aim to further develop this," adding, "Contacts are taking place at various levels."
He further added, "Since North Korea is a very important neighbor to us, this relationship must continue to develop."
Earlier, the U.S. White House stated that following the visit of Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu to North Korea, negotiations on arms deals between North Korea and Russia are actively progressing, including the exchange of letters between President Putin and Chairman Kim Jong-un. However, Peskov did not separately confirm the exchange of letters between President Putin and Chairman Kim Jong-un.
