Hyundai Motor Company secured both first and second place at the Argentina round of the global top-tier touring car championship, the '2023 TCR World Tour.'
Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 28th that it achieved a double podium finish, taking both first and second place in the first final race of this year's TCR World Tour with the Elantra N TCR (domestically known as Avante N TCR). The race was held from the 25th to the 27th (local time) at the Jose Carlos Bassi Circuit in Argentina.
Mikel Azcona of the BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse team, competing with the Elantra N TCR race car, took first place in the first final race held on the 26th. Norbert Michelisz, also competing with the same race car, secured second place in the first final race, proving the overwhelming driving performance of the Elantra N TCR.
Michelisz finished fourth in the second final race and accumulated a total of 55 points during the event, bringing his total to 270 points and placing him at the top of the drivers' standings. The BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse team, to which both drivers belong, maintained second place in the team standings with a total of 523 points.
Til Vattenberg, Executive Director of Hyundai Motor Company’s N Brand & Motorsports Division, said, "We are pleased to achieve another strong result following the opening round in Portugal and the third round in Italy of the TCR World Tour. Following the conclusion of the 'WTCR (World Touring Car Cup)' last year, the newly launched TCR World Tour this year selects 9 out of over 200 TCR events held worldwide, determining rankings based on points earned from race results.
The top 15 drivers who accumulate the most points over the 9 events will compete for the final championship at the 'TCR World Final,' held at the end of this year or early next year.
The TCR World Tour prohibits direct manufacturer participation; instead, professional racing teams that purchase manufacturer race cars compete in this customer racing series. The next event is scheduled to take place from November 3rd to 5th at Sydney Motorsport Park in Australia.
