Choi Kyung-sik, former mayor of Namwon City, Jeonbuk, participated in the ‘Hometown Love Donation Certification Challenge’ on the 18th to ensure the successful establishment of the Hometown Love Donation System and to promote a culture of donation.
The Hometown Love Donation Certification Challenge was first initiated on January 5 by National Assembly member Han Byung-do, who originally proposed the related law, with the aim of fostering a healthy donation culture toward one’s hometown and revitalizing the local economy. The challenge proceeds by having a member of the National Assembly or a local government head post a photo certifying their donation on SNS and then nominating the next participant.

Mayor Choi Kyung-sik joined the challenge after being nominated by Choi Young-il, the county governor of Sunchang. However, after the donation system was implemented, Mayor Choi took the lead by donating funds in January to 13 cities and counties in the province as well as to Namwon’s sister cities (Miryang City in Gyeongnam, Asan City in Chungnam, Gwangyang City in Jeonnam, and Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi).
Instead of making an actual donation this time, he participated in the donation certification relay and nominated Jeong In-hwa, mayor of Gwangyang City, Namwon’s sister city, as the next participant in the certification challenge.
Mayor Choi Kyung-sik said, “I am very pleased to participate in the challenge to promote the Hometown Love Donation System,” adding, “I hope that more people will participate in the Hometown Love Donation in the future to help contribute to regional development.”
