Presumed Electrocuted While Crossing Tracks
Bereaved Family Requests "Unbelievable... Please Check CCTV"
A Korean tourist visiting France was reported to have died at a subway station in Paris. The police suspect the cause of death to be electrocution, but the bereaved family finds this explanation unacceptable.
According to Yonhap News on the 21st (local time), Mr. A (36) died between 9:30 PM and 10:00 PM on the 12th at the Paris Metro Line 7 station, Villejuif Louis Aragon.
The family initially planned for Mr. A to return to Korea on the 14th, but when it was confirmed that he did not board the plane, they contacted the Korean Embassy in France on the 15th.
Subsequently, the embassy inquired with the police and reportedly found a body presumed to be Mr. A at the forensic institute on the 16th. The institute stated that based on the name and photos, the body appears to be Mr. A.
The police suspect that Mr. A was electrocuted while attempting to cross the subway tracks carrying high-voltage current. However, the exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
The family expressed that they cannot understand why Mr. A would voluntarily go down onto the subway tracks and have reportedly requested to review the local closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
Meanwhile, Mr. A was reportedly about to get married after meeting with his girlfriend’s family and had taken a long-service leave from his company to travel alone to France. The Korean Embassy plans to hand over Mr. A’s body to the family once the local police complete their investigation and identification procedures.
