Dow Jones Closes Down 0.59%
The New York stock market closed lower. Apple unveiled a mixed reality (MR) headset at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), reaching an intraday high of $184, but it fell by over 1% compared to the previous trading day by the close.
On the 5th (Eastern Time), the Dow Jones Industrial Average at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) closed at 33,562.86, down 0.59% from the previous trading day.
The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 index fell 0.20% to 4,273.79, and the Nasdaq index declined 0.09% to 13,229.43 compared to the previous session.
The S&P 500 index briefly reached the 4,299 level during the day, marking this year's highest and the highest since August last year, before retreating.
The Nasdaq index also hit the 13,330 level intraday, its highest since April last year, before narrowing its gains.
In the early session, risk appetite was highlighted as the U.S. May nonfarm payrolls data released last week showed stronger-than-expected results, and concerns over a U.S. debt default eased.
The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) Volatility Index (VIX) rose 0.13 points (0.89%) to 14.73 compared to the previous session.
