Jeon Seong-su, Seocho District Mayor: “We will continue to create a mature pet-friendly city in Seocho where people and animals happily and harmoniously coexist.”
Seocho District has prepared various events near Yangjaecheon, such as plogging, sports day, and pet tarot, to create memories with dogs.
Seocho District (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will hold the ‘Maeheon Citizens' Forest Dog Playground Opening Festival’ on the 11th. The festival was planned to celebrate the opening of the dog playground and to help establish a mature pet culture.
This festival offers various participatory programs for Seocho’s pet families to practice environmental love, including ▲‘Plogging Campaign with Dogs’ ▲‘Talk Concert with Veterinarian Seol Chae-hyun’ ▲‘Dog Knowledge Golden Bell’ ▲‘Pet Tarot’ to look into dogs’ minds ▲‘Recreation & Sports Day’ and more.
Among these, the pre-event ‘Plogging Campaign with Dogs’ draws attention.
This event involves freely strolling around Yangjaecheon with dogs while participating in eco-friendly activities. Participants pick up trash along approximately a 0.8 km section from under the Yeongdong 1 Bridge of Yangjaecheon to the Maeheon Citizens' Forest Dog Playground event site. Participants are provided with plastic bags, gloves, tongs, and shoulder straps for plogging, and receive small souvenirs such as premium leashes.
Pet tarot experience also attracts interest. Pet tarot is a card used as an animal communication aid tool, through which participants can listen to and think about their pets’ thoughts, emotions, and behaviors from the pets’ perspective, expecting to experience deeper bonding with their dogs.
The ‘Dog Recreation & Sports Day’ event is also popular. Led by a professional dog MC, on-site participants engage in games such as ‘Wait Game’ and ‘Dancing with Dogs.’ Winners receive pet-related prizes through recreation and sports activities with their dogs.
Additionally, there will be various attractions and learning opportunities such as ▲‘Dog Life Four-Cut’ sticker photos capturing happy moments with dogs ▲‘Free Dog Grooming’ ▲‘Veterinarian Dog Health Consultation’ ▲‘Behavior Correction Consultation’ with professional dog trainers ▲Paw print stamping ▲Watercolor painting of abandoned animals, and more.
The ‘Dog Playground’ was created within Maeheon Citizens' Forest, covering about 255 pyeong (843㎡). It is equipped with ▲safety fences (separating large and small-to-medium dogs) ▲owner rest areas ▲dog drinking fountains ▲dog waiting areas, among others.
The district leads animal welfare and pet administration through delicate and diverse support policies for pets. Since 2018, it has operated the ‘Seocho Animal Love Center,’ supporting ▲‘Seoripul Rainbow Gathering’ to comfort pet owners who have lost their pets ▲finding owners of roadkill animals and supporting funeral expenses ▲‘Our Neighborhood Animal Hospital Project’ for vulnerable groups ▲building winter shelters for stray cats ▲‘Dog Culture Class’ making dog bowls and bath products ▲‘Pet Academy’ to enhance dogs’ social skills, and more.
Seocho District Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “I hope the dog playground, opening for the first time in Seocho District, will become a play space where both owners and dogs can safely run and create joyful memories. We will continue to build a mature pet-friendly city in Seocho where people and animals are happy and harmoniously coexist.”
