Damyang-gun Provides Seasonal Fruits and Processed Foods for the Health of Future Generations

Damyang-gun Supports Damyang-grown Fruits and Snacks to Middle and High Schools and Alternative Schools

Reflecting Middle School Youth Policy Proposals, Expands Support to Unlicensed Alternative Schools and Middle Schools

On the 2nd, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will provide seasonal fruits and processed food snacks from Damyang Mountain to 14 unauthorized alternative schools, middle schools, and high schools in the area.

This project was initiated to provide healthy local food to unauthorized alternative schools and middle schools, reflecting the youth policy proposals for middle school students and County Governor Lee Byeong-no's administrative will to carefully attend to neglected areas, expanding the existing snack support program that was previously only for high schools.

The snacks include six types of rice processed products (such as rice cakes and sweet rice drink) and Damyang specialties (cherry tomatoes, blueberries), aiming to increase consumption of local manufacturers and revitalize the regional economy.

After conducting a preference survey among middle and high school students in March, the county plans to provide snacks weekly until November to 7 middle schools (827 students), 4 high schools (1,057 students), and unauthorized alternative schools (164 students).

A county official stated, “By providing agricultural specialties and processed foods produced locally as snacks, we aim to foster healthy eating habits among growing students and, by extending snack provision to unauthorized alternative schools, Damyang-gun will continue to support so that everyone can become healthy members of society.”
