"Preparing for Petrochemical Complex Leak Accidents"... Ulsan City Conducts Emergency Drills for Chemical Disaster Preparedness

24 Locations Including District Health Centers, Fire Departments, and Emergency Medical Institutions Mobilized

Ulsan City began on the 2nd at 10 a.m. a chemical disaster preparedness field emergency medical training session in the conference room of the Regional Emergency Medical Center (Ulsan University Hospital).

This training was organized to enhance initial response capabilities and cooperation systems with related organizations in preparation for chemical substance explosions and leakage accidents, which are highly likely to occur due to Ulsan's characteristics as an industrial city.

A total of 50 disaster response personnel from 24 related organizations, including the Ulsan Emergency Medical Support Center, Regional Emergency Medical Center, Public Health Center Rapid Response Team, fire department, and emergency medical institutions, participated.

The training simulated a special disaster situation where chemical substances leaked within the Ulsan National Petrochemical Complex leading to a fire, and was conducted as a tabletop exercise using educational tools to strengthen capabilities in operating on-site emergency medical stations and field response.

An official from Ulsan City stated, "By strengthening chemical accident response capabilities through this training, we will work to reduce preventable mortality and disability rates, and establish cooperative systems with related agencies to minimize human casualties."
