Cho Tae-yong, Director of the National Security Office, stated on the 24th, "We will build a strong security system based on overwhelming power, not a fake peace that relies on the goodwill of others, so that future generations can feel safe and nurture their dreams."
Director Cho made these remarks during a briefing to the National Assembly's Steering Committee. He also added, "A comprehensive structural reform has been achieved in the security of the Republic of Korea."
He emphasized, "The Yoon Seok-yeol administration will accurately grasp the flow of changes in the international situation and proactively prepare to protect our national interests and the safety of our people."
In this context, Kim Byung-joo, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, pointed out during a parliamentary procedure speech that the phrase 'fake peace' was problematic, stating, "There is falsehood in the National Security Office Director's remarks." In response, Director Cho rebutted, "Since I am being accused of lying, remaining silent as the National Security Office Director would not be right to the people," and added, "I believe it is fake peace."
He argued, "The previous administration, with the former president assuring the international community that North Korea had the will for denuclearization, requested the lifting of sanctions against North Korea," and stated, "I think it is justifiable to call it fake peace."
Meanwhile, Kim Tae-hyo, First Deputy Director of the National Security Office, announced, "We will strengthen international cooperation to promote North Korean human rights, including the launch of the North Korean Human Rights Foundation."
