When news broke that the Jeonju International Film Festival had provided 100 million won in funding for the documentary 'This is Moon Jae-in,' which covers the life of former President Moon Jae-in during his term, the ruling party raised a chorus of criticism.
On the 24th, Park Dae-chul, chairman of the Policy Committee, criticized former President Moon and his family collectively through his social media (SNS), saying, "A film made with the people's money, a father who says 'I'll pay to watch it myself,' and a son who received 70 million won in support during COVID and held an exhibition of his works."
He added, "If they were ordinary wealthy people, it wouldn't be a problem, but to talk about a former president's wealthy family is suffocating," and continued, "After abandoning the dog they raised and facing criticism, they told us to be grateful for the six months of free care and love they gave?that 'pride.' The 'pride' of loudly claiming they were selected on merit without 'dad's chance.' The 'pride gene' that ordinary citizens can only dream of."
Kim Min-su, spokesperson for the People Power Party, also stated in a commentary that "The film 'This is Moon Jae-in,' which was released on the 10th, has sparked public outrage as it was revealed to have received about 100 million won of taxpayers' money from the Jeonju International Film Festival organizing committee," and pointed out, "The Jeonju International Film Festival must conduct a thorough investigation into the selection process of the film and hold those responsible accountable."
Spokesperson Kim criticized, "Does it make sense for a film festival funded by citizens' taxes to have a 'political bias'?" and added, "The film festival, which is held with taxpayers' money, has been corrupted into a platform for promoting leftist propaganda films, straying from its original purpose due to political and ideological bias."
