Seongbuk-gu, which supports the ‘1,000 Won Breakfast’ program at six local universities, visited Dongduk Women’s University (President Kim Myeong-ae) on the 22nd to check student satisfaction and other matters.

On this visit, National Assembly member Ki Dong-min accompanied the delegation.

Seongbuk-gu is investing about 150 million won from its budget to support 1,000 won of the school’s share required for the ‘1,000 Won Breakfast’ program until November this year at each university.

As the first autonomous district to provide support to all schools that expressed willingness to participate in the project, the district encouraged schools hesitant due to financial burdens to join, enabling more young people to benefit.

The ‘1,000 Won Breakfast’ program supports college students with a high rate of breakfast skipping to start their day with a healthy meal for 1,000 won. In 2023, the program will operate for five months from May to November, excluding the summer vacation period (July to August).

On this day, Seongbuk-gu Mayor Lee Seung-ro and National Assembly member Ki Dong-min had meals with students and listened to various youth opinions. Kim Seo-won, president of the Dongduk Women’s University Student Council, said, “The ‘1,000 Won Breakfast’ has helped change my lifestyle to a healthier pattern,” and added, “I am grateful for the interest and support that allow us to have healthy meals at an affordable price, especially these days when food expenses are a heavy burden due to high prices.”

Mayor Lee Seung-ro stated, “We will continue to develop policies that help young people freely dream and grow. I also ask young people to take an active interest in the district administration, including various projects implemented by Seongbuk-gu.”
