S-OIL Appoints Anwar Al Hizazi as New CEO

Rich Experience in Collaboration and Relationship Building Among Korea-China-Japan Joint Ventures

On the 9th, S-OIL held an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders and a board meeting, appointing Anwar A. Al-Hejazi, former President of Aramco Asia, as the CEO and inside director.

The S-OIL board stated, "Anwar Al-Hejazi CEO is an expert in the energy industry who has served as an executive at Saudi Arabia's national oil and energy company Aramco, and we believe he will contribute to the company's management as well as its global growth and development," explaining the reason for his recommendation.


The newly appointed CEO Al-Hejazi is from Saudi Arabia and majored in Chemical Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. Since 1996, he has accumulated 27 years of extensive experience in various fields at Saudi Aramco, including management of oil and gas production facilities, business development, investment localization, mega project management, and facility planning.


In particular, from 2016, he served as President of Aramco Asia Japan, and from 2018, as President of Aramco Asia overseeing the Asian region, leading strategic joint venture investment development and cooperation with companies in Korea, China, and Japan.


During his tenure as President of Aramco Asia, CEO Al-Hejazi expanded Aramco's market share by building relationships with current and potential customers in crude oil and LPG sales across Asia, solidifying its position as the largest crude oil supplier in Korea, Japan, and China.


He also played a key role in several Korea-related projects, discovering new business opportunities in low-carbon ammonia and hydrogen sectors, and facilitating the signing of memorandums of understanding (MOUs) between Saudi Aramco and ten major companies in Korea and Japan.


Additionally, he participated in management as an Aramco director at joint ventures within the Asian region, including Showa Shell Sekiyu (Tokyo, Japan), FREP, SSPC (Fujian Province, China), and the Chinese branch of the venture capital fund Prosperity7, managing oil and gas production facilities and leading financial projects, thereby gaining a broad understanding of East Asian business culture.


S-OIL stated, "CEO Al-Hejazi has demonstrated leadership by accumulating expertise and extensive experience in various fields such as facility operations, project planning and management, marketing activities in the Asia-Pacific region, and participation in venture capital fund management," adding, "He is an excellent candidate to lead outstanding results in S-OIL's strategic growth in preparation for the upcoming era of energy transition, including the successful construction of the Shahin project for petrochemical expansion and portfolio advancement, entry into the low-carbon hydrogen economy, and the pursuit of the 2050 carbon neutrality roadmap."
