Foreigners-Only Casino Scheduled to Operate in Q1 Next Year
Mohigan to Invest 6 Trillion Won for 4-Phase Development Through 2046
The Inspire Casino Complex Resort on Yeongjongdo Island in Incheon is set to open within this year.
Mohegan Inspire, the company promoting the complex resort project, held a press conference at the Inspire construction site on the 26th and announced that the construction of Phase 1 (resort section) has progressed smoothly, reaching 63% completion as of this month.
Currently, the main structural and exterior work of the resort buildings has been completed, and interior facility work is underway.
Inspire plans to complete construction in the fourth quarter of this year and open three hotel towers (1,275 rooms), Korea's first multipurpose indoor professional performance arena (with a capacity of 15,000 seats), an indoor water dome (Splash Bay, totaling 9,500㎡), and a Family Park (100,000㎡).
The resort will also include the largest hotel convention center in Korea, state-of-the-art MICE facilities, world-class retail combining shopping, dining, and entertainment (stores selling performance-related goods and souvenirs), a digital shopping street realized through the latest IT and digital technologies, and a media art exhibition hall.
The foreigner-only casino is scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of next year after receiving a 5-star hotel rating.
The total investment for Phase 1 development amounts to 2 trillion KRW (including 960 billion KRW in foreign direct investment). Inspire plans to continue expansion projects after the resort opening, developing the largest complex resort in Northeast Asia through four phases by 2046, with a total project cost of 6 trillion KRW.
Chen Si, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Mohegan Inspire, stated, "Inspire will set a new standard for 'entertainment resorts' by combining Mohegan's accumulated know-how from over 25 years of developing and operating complex resorts with high-quality amenities and the best entertainment experiences that encompass all generations and cultures."
He added, "We aim to establish ourselves as a complex resort that contributes to the benefits of employees, customers, and the local community, achieving sustainable growth."
During a construction site tour following the press conference, he explained the progress of the project while touring spaces for the largest immersive content exhibition hall in Korea, developed in collaboration with Hyundai Futurenet, as well as the arena, Splash Bay, Digital Street, and Rotunda (a building or interior space with a dome roof).
He highlighted features of the Digital Street, where digital shows will be displayed every 30 minutes via large LED screens installed on the ceiling and walls, and Splash Bay, an indoor water dome operable year-round, raising anticipation for the resort's opening.
He also toured the arena, which can host various events ranging from K-pop concerts and tours by internationally renowned artists to major sports and e-sports matches, award ceremonies, large exhibitions, and shows, introducing cutting-edge stage equipment, seating, skyboxes, lounges, and other ancillary facilities.
Mohegan Inspire operates talent discovery programs in cooperation with over 30 universities and educational institutions nationwide and plans to conduct large-scale open recruitment around July.
Mohegan Inspire is a special purpose corporation established domestically, wholly funded by Mohegan, a premier global casino complex entertainment resort operator.
