National Integration Committee Launches 'Fraud Eradication Special Task Force'... "Must Root Out Life Fraud Including Jeonse Fraud"

Chairman Kim Han-gil: "Livelihood Fraud Destroys Our Community"
Supplementing Prevention Systems, Establishing Damage Relief, and Building an Integrated Response System

Kim Han-gil, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on National Integration, stated on the 24th that "we must eradicate livelihood fraud" in response to various fraud cases targeting socially vulnerable groups, such as jeonse fraud, voice phishing, and employment scams.

At 11 a.m. on the same day, during the launch ceremony of the 'Special Committee for the Eradication of Livelihood Fraud' held at the Government Seoul Office in Jongno-gu, Seoul, Chairman Kim said, "Livelihood fraud causes irreversible damage by giving young people a sense of defeat from the very start and destroying the livelihood of the elderly, thereby dismantling our community."

In his opening remarks, Chairman Kim pointed out, "There have been numerous cases of young people who have just entered society committing suicide due to jeonse fraud, and recently, a tragic incident occurred in Michuhol-gu, Incheon. A few days ago, the President also mentioned that jeonse fraud is a typical crime targeting the vulnerable, with the tragic victims being the young future generation. People are suffering greatly from all kinds of fraud, including voice phishing, jeonse fraud, drug beverage scams in academies, and employment scams. This is the reality we are facing."

He continued, "Livelihood fraud instantly destroys daily life and plunges victims into an inescapable abyss. No one is exempt," and explained the purpose of the launch by saying, "Our National Integration Committee has established the Special Committee for the Eradication of Livelihood Fraud to root out these crimes."

Chairman Kim added, "I hope that practical and tangible policy alternatives that can operate on the ground and be felt by the people will be prepared so that victims no longer suffer," and "I expect the special committee to work diligently to resolve livelihood fraud that casts a shadow over both the young and the elderly."

Since this year’s key focus of the Integration Committee is on youth and socially vulnerable groups, the special committee plans to operate with an emphasis on policy proposals for youth, the elderly, and socially vulnerable groups. To this end, the special committee will work on ▲ institutional improvements for prevention ▲ preparation of victim relief measures ▲ review of integrated response systems. Based on this, it plans to announce policy alternatives focused on protecting socially vulnerable groups and youth in July.

Earlier in February, the Integration Committee selected strategic tasks for the special committee, including ▲ preemptive blocking of fraud routes and establishment of response systems ▲ victim relief that the public can feel ▲ preparation of prevention programs such as fraud response education and publicity ▲ strengthening punishments to prevent recurrence.

Lee Jung-jae, Director and Editorial Advisor of Asia Economy Economic Media School, serves as the chairman of the special committee. Thirteen members participate, including Seo Jun-bae, Vice President of the Fraud Prevention Research Association and professor at the Korean National Police University; Lee Soo-jung, a criminal psychology expert and professor at Kyonggi University; and experts in information and communication and finance.

Chairman Lee stated, "The Korean-style fraud ecosystem is one where young people and the vulnerable are betrayed and driven to extreme choices, while fraudsters live lavishly overseas," and added, "With the determination and preparation as if fighting a war, we will eradicate this fraud ecosystem."
