Professor Park Jung-yul of Korea University Anam Hospital, 'Korea's First' Elected as World Medical Association President

Korea University Anam Hospital announced on the 21st that Professor Jung-Yul Park of the Department of Neurosurgery has been elected as the Chairperson of the World Medical Association (WMA). Professor Park's election as Chairperson of the WMA is the first case in Korea, and his term is two years.


Professor Jung-Yul Park was unanimously elected as Chairperson at the WMA Board meeting held on the 20th in Nairobi, Kenya. The hospital emphasized that Professor Park's election demonstrates the global status of Korean medical care.


Professor Park stated, "International cooperation is necessary to overcome many challenges worldwide and to escape the problems faced by local communities," adding, "The role of the World Medical Association, representing doctors around the world, will become even more important."


Since 2019, Professor Park has served as the Chairperson of the WMA Finance and Planning Committee and has been active as a dispatched director of the WMA. Graduating from Korea University College of Medicine and obtaining his master's and doctorate degrees from the same graduate school, Professor Park currently specializes in stereotactic function, spinal diseases, and geriatric diseases at the Department of Neurosurgery, Korea University Anam Hospital. The World Medical Association was founded in 1947 and is an international organization with 116 member countries.
