The 11th Gangbuk-gu Youth Hope Expedition Team of 52 Members Held Inauguration Ceremony on the 8th
Fostering Spirit of Challenge and Friendship through Six Hikes from April to November with Captain Um Hong-gil
Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) held the inauguration ceremony of the "11th Gangbuk-gu Youth Hope Expedition Team with Captain Um Hong-gil" on the 8th.
Since 2012, the Youth Hope Expedition Team is a youth development program designed for second-year middle school students to hike with the world-renowned mountaineer Captain Um Hong-gil, fostering a spirit of challenge and friendship, relieving academic stress, and building character and physical strength.
On that day, 52 students held the inauguration ceremony at the small theater of the Gangbuk Youth Center, then divided into eight groups to walk about 4.1 km to Bonghwanggak with mountaineer Captain Um Hong-gil. Following the Gangbuk-gu Historical and Cultural Tourism Stamp Healing Tour course "You and Me and Us," they passed the 4.19 Observatory and Pine Tree Rest Area to Bonghwanggak, visiting places where the breath of modern and contemporary Korean history can be felt. The youths took time to reflect on the spirit of sacrifice of the patriotic martyrs and the heroes of the April 19 Revolution.
Going forward, the 11th Gangbuk-gu Youth Hope Expedition Team will have six regular hikes from April to November on the second Saturday of each month with Captain Um Hong-gil, climbing mountains such as Bukhansan, Dobongsan, and Suraksan to cultivate their spirit of challenge.
Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said at the event, "Although hiking may be tough, if Captain Um Hong-gil and friends support each other, you can overcome it to the end," adding, "If you, who will lead the Republic of Korea in the future, engrave the value of 'challenge spirit and achievement' in your hearts, the future of Korea is bright."

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held a residents' briefing session on the "Jayang 1 Redevelopment Promotion Project" at the district office auditorium on the 10th to communicate with residents.
The Jayang 1 Redevelopment Promotion Area covers the site of the former Eastern District Court and KT property at 680-63 Jayang-dong, with a total area of 78,147 square meters.
Here, for the first time nationwide, a large-scale complex integrating administrative, residential, business, and cultural facilities will be developed, including ▲Gwangjin-gu Office new building (18 floors) ▲Advanced business complex (31 floors) ▲Hotel and officetel (34 floors) ▲Seven apartment buildings with 1,363 households (26 to 48 floors).
In particular, the 1,363 apartment units consist of 631 general sales units, 432 public rental units, and 300 happy housing units.
The briefing session was attended by about 300 residents and proceeded in the order of ▲Current status of the redevelopment promotion project ▲Resident convenience projects ▲Q&A session.
The current progress rate is about 27%, with completion targeted by the end of 2024. Once completed, the complex is expected to increase the resident population by about 3,000 and the working population by about 6,000, and the daily users of Guui Station are expected to more than double, positioning the area as a leading center for regional development.
Additionally, to enhance residents' convenience, various improvement projects around Guui Station will be promoted, including ▲Improvement of Jayang Intersection traffic island ▲Improvement of Guui Station Exit 3 ▲Creation of rest areas.
First, the traffic island on the southwest side of Jayang Intersection, which raised safety concerns due to narrow crosswalks and illegal parking, will be removed and the crosswalk expanded to create a safer pedestrian environment.
Guui Station Exit 3, which lacked a roof and was exposed to snow and rain, will have escalators and a roof installed, and the narrow walkway beside the exit will be widened. Additionally, a connecting passageway will be built linking buildings within the redevelopment complex to improve resident convenience.
Finally, rest areas such as cultural parks and linear small parks will be created around Guui Station, where green spaces are insufficient.
Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, "Gwangjin-gu is promoting differentiated regional specialized balanced development centered on the 2040 Gwangjin Plan," adding, "With the recent announcement of the Seoul Han River Project, we expect accelerated development along the Han River, and through complex development projects extending from Konkuk University Station to Guui Station, Gangbyeon Station, and the Han River, we will lead visible changes in Gwangjin's development."

Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) will hold the "April Seongbuk-gu Residents' Walking Contest" on the 22nd.
Since social distancing was eased last August, Seongbuk-gu has held four walking contests in total. Last month, a walking contest was held on the Seongbukcheon Cherry Blossom Path, which arrived earlier than usual, receiving great response.
This April walking contest will start from the 1st Wolgok Artificial Turf Field and proceed along the Wolgok Mountain Trail, where azaleas are in full bloom, for about 50 minutes.
The event will operate a much-anticipated health experience booth. After the walking exercise, a prize event will be held with about 50 various prizes prepared, including bicycles and rice cookers.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, "I hope all residents spend a healthy time in nature while walking the azalea-filled Wolgok Mountain Trail."
The "April Seongbuk-gu Residents' Walking Contest" is open to anyone interested in walking and health without prior registration; participants just need to arrive at the 1st Wolgok Artificial Turf Field by 9 AM on the 22nd.
