Kim Seong-han, Director of National Security Office, Announces Resignation (Update)

Restoration of ROK-US Alliance and Improvement of Korea-Japan Relations
Conditions Considered Met
Committed to Yoon Government's Success Even After Returning to University

Kim Sung-han, Director of the National Security Office, tendered his resignation on the 29th.

On the same day, Director Kim announced his resignation through a notice to the presidential press corps, stating, "I wish to step down from my position as Director of the National Security Office effective today."

Director Kim said, "When I was offered this position by the President a year ago, I mentioned that I would return to academia after restoring the Korea-US alliance, improving Korea-Japan relations, and laying the groundwork for strengthening Korea-US-Japan security cooperation. I now believe that these conditions have been sufficiently met."

He added, "Preparations for the President's upcoming state visit to the United States are also progressing well, so I believe that even if a new successor arrives, the work can continue smoothly."

He further stated, "I hope that the controversies caused by me will no longer be a burden on diplomacy and national governance," and "I will do my best for the success of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration even after returning to university."
