NewJeans Sets New Record for K-Pop Female Artists on Billboard 'Global 200'

NewJeans has set a new record for K-pop female artists by appearing on the US Billboard charts for 31 consecutive weeks.

According to the latest chart (dated March 18) released by the US music media Billboard on the 14th (local time), NewJeans (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein)'s debut song "Hype boy" ranked 101st on the Billboard "Global 200."

This marks 31 consecutive weeks on the chart, setting the longest record for K-pop female artists in this category. "Hype boy," one of the triple title tracks from NewJeans' debut album, first entered the Billboard "Global 200" at 116th place (dated August 20, 2022), rose to 52nd, and has remained on the chart since, proving its steady popularity.

The popularity of NewJeans' single album tracks "Ditto" and "OMG" is also strong. This week on the Billboard "Global 200," the two songs ranked 19th and 38th, respectively. On the same chart, NewJeans' highest rankings were 8th for "Ditto" (dated January 14) and 10th for "OMG" (dated January 21).

The Billboard "Global 200" ranks the most popular songs based on streaming and digital sales (downloads) collected from over 200 regions worldwide, including the United States. It is a major chart created by US Billboard in 2020 to reflect the latest trends in the popular music market.

NewJeans has also achieved remarkable results on the US Billboard "Hot 100," which comprehensively covers album and digital sales as well as radio airplay figures. This chart has a high entry barrier for non-English-speaking artists, but NewJeans appeared on it for six consecutive weeks with their single album "OMG," released last January. The highest Billboard "Hot 100" rankings for the two songs "OMG" and "Ditto" from the album were 74th and 82nd, respectively (dated February 18).
