The Northern Fire Station of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 13th that, as spring is a season when the activity of wild animals waking up from hibernation increases and citizens' outdoor activities also rise, caution is advised regarding wild animals during outdoor activities.
Spring is the breeding season for wild animals and a time when their feeding activities become vigorous, requiring special attention as citizens may encounter them during outdoor activities.
In the past two years, the Northern Fire Station of Gwangju has responded to 3,208 wild animal-related incidents. A detailed look at the dispatches shows 1,944 cases of beehive removal, 607 involving dogs, 116 snakes, 63 water deer (gorani), and 8 wild boars.
Accordingly, the Northern Fire Station of Gwangju has installed "High Frequency Safety Dispatch Area Warning" signs at five locations including Gwangju Lake Ecological Park and is urging caution against safety accidents through various promotional activities.
Precautions for outdoor activities in spring include ▲wearing long sleeves and long pants ▲wearing brightly colored clothes ▲avoiding the use of perfume ▲using a picnic mat when sitting on the ground ▲avoiding approaching wild animals ▲not shining lights toward animals.
A fire official stated, “As temperatures warm in spring and wild animal activity increases, a little extra attention to your surroundings during outdoor activities is the best way to reduce safety accidents and enjoy your time.”
