Boseong Industrial announced on the 13th that it has selected the data center business as a future strategic business and established a new 'Data Center Park Team' under the existing Smart City Development Headquarters to secure competitiveness.
The Data Center Park Team will be responsible for ▲attracting investments from domestic and international big tech companies ▲establishing data center infrastructure such as power and communication networks ▲handling related policy tasks with the government and local governments to build a large-scale data center within Solarsido Enterprise City, which Boseong Industrial is developing. Boseong Industrial also plans to recruit additional experts to secure data center development capabilities.
Earlier, in September last year, Boseong Group signed an investment agreement to build a renewable energy global data center together with Jeollanam-do, Haenam-gun, TGK, and Diode Ventures. The project, valued at 2 billion dollars, aims to establish a data center in Solarsido. A special purpose company (SPC) will be established this month to carry out the project. Boseong Industrial plans to first build five 40MW data center buildings (total 200MW) and later expand into a global data center park (25 buildings, 1000MW scale) to realize Northeast Asia RE100.
A Boseong Industrial official explained, "Solarsido is evaluated as the optimal location for big tech companies operating data centers to achieve RE100," adding, "Through renewable energy generation, large-scale power required by data centers can be stably supplied, and since the power generation facilities are adjacent, most of the generated power is consumed directly, minimizing the burden on Korea Electric Power Corporation's grid facilities."
In particular, Boseong Industrial is focusing on building AI data centers. They plan to attract related companies such as fabless, autonomous driving, and metaverse companies along with the data centers. With the government announcing a comprehensive support plan on the 9th through the State Affairs Ministerial Meeting for relocating data centers from the metropolitan area to local regions, the Solarsido Data Center Park project is expected to gain further momentum.
A Boseong Industrial official said, "By establishing a dedicated team and reinforcing expert personnel, we will emerge as a leading company driving the domestic data center business," adding, "The regional dispersion of data centers will be an opportunity to promote balanced regional development and attract investments from global companies."
