Expansion of the 'Busan-style School Violence Zero Pilot Project'

Expansion from 2 Schools (Grade 2) to 5 Schools (Grades 3 and 8) with Pilot Operation Until 2024

Operation of School Violence Response Program and Strengthening Student-Led Conflict Resolution Skills

Busan City and the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will expand the ‘Busan-type School Violence Zero Pilot Project’ initiated last year starting from the new semester.

The ‘Busan-type School Violence Zero Pilot Project’ is the nation’s first program jointly established by the city and the education office to establish a “safe and happy school culture free of violence.” It aims to develop an excellent Busan-type model through a pilot program that responds to school violence at the prevention, occurrence, and post-occurrence stages, as well as by strengthening students’ conflict resolution capabilities.

At the performance report meeting held in December last year, experts and stakeholders raised the need to expand the project period and target schools, leading to the decision to expand the operation from 2 schools to 5 schools over two years starting this year.

Accordingly, in February this year, through a public contest, the following schools were selected as pilot project target schools: ▲Oryukdo Elementary School (Nam-gu) ▲Juyang Elementary School (Sasang-gu) ▲Seongji Elementary School (Busanjin-gu) ▲Yeonsan Middle School (Yeonje-gu) ▲Jisa Middle School (Gangseo-gu), totaling 3 elementary schools and 2 middle schools.

To ensure smooth project implementation, by February, teachers at the pilot schools completed preparatory processes including training on operation manuals and program execution. ▲This year, a basic program aimed at establishing a violence-free school culture will be operated, and ▲in 2024, an advanced program to strengthen the capacity of school members to independently resolve school violence will be conducted. Furthermore, after developing the final excellent model through the basic and advanced programs, it will be disseminated to all schools starting in 2025.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “Since school violence is a critical issue that affects the entire life of the victimized student, I hope this pilot project will develop a customized excellent model for each stage of prevention, occurrence, and post-occurrence of school violence, establishing a safe and happy school culture.” He added, “Going forward, our city and the education office will continue to cooperate to create a Busan free of school violence and strengthen protection and support so that children and adolescents can live healthily and happily.”
