Joint Meeting of Related Ministries Held
On the 9th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety held a 'Comprehensive Response Plan for Spring Drought' meeting at the Government Sejong Complex Situation Room, chaired by Kim Seong-ho, Director of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters, with participation from central government ministries, relevant local governments, and related agencies.
Although water supply has somewhat improved, the recent continued lack of rainfall has led to deteriorating reservoir levels and water supply shortages to the Yeosu and Gwangyang industrial complexes, causing factory disruptions. In response, the meeting discussed strengthening sector-specific water supply measures for spring drought preparedness through joint efforts of related ministries.

Additionally, the government has prepared special measures to address water shortages in island areas where water supply restrictions are in place. First, led by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and local governments, surveys on the current status and plans for water supply on each island were conducted to identify blind spots in water distribution, and customized facility expansions such as underwater water pipelines were implemented. Furthermore, administrative and financial support was provided to increase the frequency of daily water supply routes, reducing the number of water outage days by region. Diverse water resources will also be supplied to Wando and Tongyeong to strengthen water security.
The government plans to respond to the spring drought with a unified, whole-of-government approach by strengthening the inter-agency response system.
Kim Seong-ho, Director of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, stated, “The government will thoroughly respond to the spring drought to ensure that companies in industrial complexes, farmers preparing for the farming season, and residents in severely drought-affected areas do not experience inconveniences in their daily lives,” adding, “We also ask the public to continue conserving water and participate in drinking water donations until the drought is resolved and water supply stabilizes. The government will respond meticulously to minimize damage.”
