Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed his support for the government's solution to compensate victims of forced labor.

Ban said on the 8th, "I highly appreciate President Yoon Seok-yeol's difficult decision, which created momentum for a new future in the long-stalled Korea-Japan relations."
Ban added, "I believe this solution is a realistic and reasonable approach that comprehensively considers the Supreme Court ruling, international law, and Korea-Japan relations," and said, "Cooperation with Japan, which shares the values of liberal democracy, amid increasingly severe international situations and complex crises will greatly contribute to our national interests and international peace."
He emphasized, "Going forward, our government must continue efforts to proactively comfort the wounds without ignoring the victims' sorrow and pain," and "Japan should respond to these efforts with sincerity and a genuine attitude."
He continued, "Through this, the two countries should build a truly future-oriented friendly cooperative relationship."
