Applications Accepted from March 2 to April 28
Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is accepting applications for the ‘2023 Basic Public Interest Direct Payment’.
Now in its fourth year of implementation, the Basic Public Interest Direct Payment was established to enhance the public functions of agriculture and rural areas and to stabilize the income of farmers.
This system provides direct payments to farmers who meet certain qualifications and comply with required conditions. The Basic Public Interest Direct Payment is divided into two types: Small-scale Farmer Direct Payment and Area-based Direct Payment.
Small-scale farmers receive 1.2 million KRW per household, while the Area-based Direct Payment amount is calculated using a regressive unit price based on area segments. Eligible applicants include those who have received direct payments since 2016, successor farmers, full-time farmers selected by policy, new applicants, and those eligible for succession.
In particular, this year, the requirement that farmland must have received direct payments at least once between 2017 and 2019 has been removed, thereby expanding the eligibility.
The application period is from the 2nd of this month to April 28th. Farmers and agricultural corporations must visit the township or town office in the location of their farmland during the application period to submit the application form and required documents such as lease contracts.
However, new applicants and out-of-area cultivators (those whose residence and farmland are more than 50 km apart) must additionally submit a cultivation confirmation signed by the village head and at least two other village farmers, totaling three or more people.
Farmers whose basic direct payment registration information from last year and agricultural management entity registration information for this year have not changed and who meet the eligibility criteria will receive a separate notification message.
A county official stated, “With the expansion of farmland eligible for public interest direct payments starting this year, we expect the benefits for farmers to increase significantly. Applicants should apply for the farmland they are actually cultivating during the application period and diligently comply with the required conditions to avoid any reduction in direct payments.”
Sancheong-gun plans to proceed with eligibility verification and compliance inspections from May to September after the application deadline, finalize the list of recipients and payment amounts in October, and begin disbursing direct payments to farmers starting in November.
