[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Yoon Soha, Standing Auditor of the Korea Rural Community Corporation, visited Jangseongho in Jeonnam on the 23rd to inspect the status of securing water resources during the farming season and held a meeting with on-site staff.
Standing Auditor Yoon emphasized to the on-site staff attending the meeting, "This is a moment when the Corporation's role is more important than ever due to unprecedented drought and water shortages," and urged, "Please do your best to alleviate farmers' water concerns by implementing both short-term and permanent measures."
The reservoir rate of Jangseongho, the representative reservoir in the headquarters' jurisdiction, is 38% (as of the 23rd), and it is expected that there will be no problems until rice planting, but rainfall must be closely monitored thereafter.
In fact, in the Jeonnam region, last year's accumulated rainfall was only 67% of the average, causing an emergency in securing water resources.
Jo Youngho, head of the Jeonnam Regional Headquarters, said, "Since last November, we have installed temporary pumping stations at 78 reservoirs where water shortages are a concern, securing 4.98 million tons of water," and added, "Along with short-term measures such as water filling, we will faithfully promote long-term measures such as multipurpose rural water development projects to continuously secure water resources."
Meanwhile, the Jeonnam Regional Headquarters plans to additionally secure 6.7 million tons of water by continuing proactive responses such as pumping and storage at reservoirs with water shortage concerns.
