Changwon National University Requests Ministry of Health and Welfare to Increase Medical School Quotas!

Joint Petition Submission with Gongju, Mokpo, Suncheon, and Andong Universities

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Changwon National University has proposed to the Ministry of Health and Welfare an increase in medical school quotas and the establishment of a regional public medical workforce development system.


According to the university, Changwon National University, along with Kongju National University, Mokpo National University, Suncheon National University, and Andong National University, delivered a joint proposal letter signed by their presidents to the Minister of Health and Welfare at the Government Sejong Complex on the 20th.


The joint proposal letter was adopted at the joint forum for the establishment of regional public medical workforce expansion held by the five national universities on the 19th of last month.

The proposal letter included demands such as ▲allocation of medical school quotas necessary for the establishment of regional national university medical schools ▲establishment of a regional public medical workforce development system ▲priority establishment of regional national university medical schools and affiliated university hospitals, and national support for these efforts.


On that day, the five university presidents, including President Lee Hoyoung, emphasized that “increasing medical school quotas and establishing a regional public medical workforce development system are essential prerequisites for the establishment of regional national university medical schools.”


They added, “We will cooperate with national universities in medically underserved areas nationwide and fulfill our responsibilities as representative national universities of the region to ensure that the establishment of medical schools improves the quality of life for local residents and resolves medical gaps within the national university regions located in medically vulnerable areas.”
